Last week’s ice storm hit Waterloo on one of the very first days of spring. My frustration at all the cold and wet was quickly driven away when the sun came out on Good Friday and highlighted how surreal the landscape looked. Sadly, we were driving home during the beginning of sunset, but as soon as our car reached the driveway I ran inside for my camera and whatever lens was on it (35mm) and then back down towards the lake for the last 20 minutes of light. I am often thankful that we live in a place that feels like a cottage in the middle of the city, but on this beautiful day I did an extra happy dance as I was running (which probably explains why I fell in the lake).
As primarily a wedding photographer, it’s really not often that I take pictures of just nature with no human subjects. While I’m sure the next sunny ice storm sunset is a while away, this has definitely inspired me to shoot + share more nature photos (and maybe I will become a goose whisperer and get some of Waterloo’s finest in the next set?).
