This post is about an earlier ROOT workshop – for new details and new dates, please visit this page!
Oak+Olive’s first Waterloo photography workshop was such a success, I’ve decided to run ROOT again. Thanks for stopping by to check this page out!
When I first bought my camera about two and a half years ago, I spent hours and hours trying to find information online on how to take a good photo. While good ol’ Google led me in the right direction initially, it eventually became hard for me to find answers to all my questions. Later in that first year, I had the opportunity to do a mentorship with a photographer I adore and that sent my photography in a whole new direction. Since then, I haven’t looked back. I continue to attend workshops and mentorships, and I can say without a doubt they are the #1 reason why my business is developing the way that it is. It’s been so inspiring to hear others talk about their art, and the amount you can learn from others is incredible.
What many of you may not know is that there is an incredible community of photographers in Ontario (and beyond!) that eagerly welcome newcomers and up-in-comers with open arms. This community-over-competition attitude is exactly what I want to support, and with that in mind I decided a perfect next step for my business was to plan this workshop and share with friends who want to know more.
ROOT is aimed at those who may be curious about getting serious about photography. Maybe you own a DSLR and haven’t yet made it off of auto mode – but you know you want to! This workshop is a great way to grow your understanding of the basics of photography and get you taking first steps (or second or third) towards taking better portraits, or maybe even sprouting a business. ROOT is limited to 6 spots, so that we can keep the atmosphere cozy and really get to know each other.
The ROOT workshop will start with the basics – light, exposure, white balance, focus, focal length etc etc – in order to lay the foundation for what makes a photograph. Over the course of 5 hours, we’ll discuss the technical elements of photography, get into some tips and tricks for sessions and posing, and wrap it up with some shoot time to put our knowledge into practice. I’ll let you know exactly how I went from owning a camera to identifying myself as a photographer, and will share anything and everything I’ve learned up to this point.
ROOT will take place at my home in Waterloo, Ontario on Sunday September 27th. We’ll start at 1pm and go until about 6pm. More details about location and schedule will be passed along to the attendees.
The cost for ROOT is $125 + HST. A 50% deposit is required to secure your spot, with the remainder due day of.
Don’t hesitate to email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) with questions – I’d love to chat with you about what ROOT will be like!
