On a perfect May long weekend, Karl and I packed up our car and headed out from Waterloo to a very special celebration at camp. Two good friends, Sarah + Cody, were finally tying the knot, and it was bound to be a heartwarming, hilarious and unique celebration.

Sarah + Cody dreamt up the most laid back, community focused and just straight up fun wedding celebration I’ve ever witnessed. Their intent from the start was to include friends and family in every step of the process; instead of planning the whole thing and just having people show up, they wanted to make sure the day was crafted by those who would be there to celebrate with them. Friends were assigned roles, from making the seating chart, to playing bartender, to even catering the entire wedding meal. It was a total community event that I will not soon forget.

The whole weekend was held at Silver Lake Mennonite Camp near Sauble Beach. Sarah, a camp veteran, was able to show me around morning of and we planned our route for adventures later that day. Cody and Sarah opted to hang out prior to the ceremony, which allowed us some awesome flexibility in our schedule and we were able to really take advantage of all the camp had to offer because of it. After a thoughtful ceremony on the steps on the dining hall, an incredible BBQ meal prepared by friends, and a hilarious + emotional set of speeches, the three of us headed down the road to catch a little bit of sunset at the water. Everyone wrapped up the day with a hilarious dance party back at the dining hall. Even long after Sarah + Cody left for a hotel, many shenanigans happened into the night, as most guests (myself and Karl included) were sleeping over in the camp cabins.

Thanks for letting me be the storyteller of this day!
